Years 8 & 9 Interhouse Debate

THE YEARS 8 AND 9INTER-HOUSE DEBATE ROCKED.......

Tuesday 9^th/3/2011 saw the years 8 and 9 bring down the house( read auditorium) during their  mid morning Inter-house Debate Competition.

 The eager enthusiastic   crew showcased their talent on stage to an expectant audience. Simply put, each participating house team displayed great debating skills. The determination of the students was all evident on their faces which reflected on how competitive the event was. All the speakers were full of verve and vigour which left the audience yearning for more.

 Here below, please sample the debate topics: very current and elicit emotional opinions amongst the youngsters.

 1.         Social Networking Sites like Face Book, My Space, and Twitter should prohibit school children from using their services.  

            Opposing: Impala

            Proposing: Simba

 2.         Parents should not get involved when their children are making choices in life, for example, marriage and career.

            Opposing: Gazelle 

            Proposing: Flamingo

The actual debate scenes defy descriptions. Each speaker attempted to rubbish the opponents' views by employing emotional appeal, sensory images, facts and figures and rhetorical questions. When cornered, one of them went ahead and involved the audience directly though with a well, calculated punch line that egged the audience to fall for the trick.

 In a word, it was a debate full of intense moments punctuated by an  occasionally fired up audience and taxed the judges' Solomonic wisdom to come up with a clear winner.

 After all the speakers were done, that is,  after the embers died down and the interactive session calmed down, the judges announced the results as follow:

 1^st position: Flamingo    74 points

2^nd position: Simba         73 points

3^rd position: Impala        71 points

4^th position: Gazelle        64 points

2.  Jaaziyah Shiraz Satar                      - Simba house -9F

3.  Arya Jignesh Desai            - Impala house - 9A
